Cement Mason

 

Job Summary:

 

The Cement Mason position is responsible for smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concretes and ensuring the proper arrangement of rubbing cement and other concrete forms.

​

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

​

  • Smoothens and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalk, or curbs to a specified texture.

  • Lays concrete blocks and mixes cement using shovel or cement mixing machine.

  • Studies specification in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout.

  • Determines dimensions and materials required for a project.

  • Molds expansion edges and joints using appropriate construction tools.

  • Inspects concrete construction to ensure that it is properly built and can hold the correct amount of cement to finish tasks.

  • Mixes, applies, and spreads plaster, concrete, mortar, cement, mastic, glue, or other adhesive to form a bed for the tiles.

  • Applies coats of plaster to walls, ceilings or partitions of building using hand and power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

​

  • Skilled in active listening, retaining information, and asking questions as appropriate.

  • Skilled in learning strategies, selecting, and using training and instructional methods appropriate for the situation when teaching new information to new workers.

  • Has effective teamwork and collaborative skills.

  • Ability to properly care for and use tools needed for construction.

  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds worth of construction materials.

  • Ability to work while being in a prolonged period of standing, climbing, kneeling, and bending.

  • Ability to demonstrate vigilance and being aware of fixtures that can be dangerous to themselves and other workers.

  • Knowledge of building and construction.

  • Knowledge of reading blueprints and taking verbal and written instructions.

  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

  • Must be able to have a good sense of balance.

  • Must have an excellent hand-eye coordination.

 

Education and Experience and Special Requirements:

​

The Cement Mason position requires a minimum of a High School diploma and two (2) years’ worth of experience in any related field. Any off-island hires must complete a health screening prior to working in Guam. Similarly, successful applicants must be able to obtain military base access.
