Job Summary: 

A Logistics Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the movement, delivery, staging, and storage of construction materials and equipment. The position works closely with project managers, engineers, procurement personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and transportation providers to ensure that materials and equipment are available when needed and are properly coordinated with construction activities. The Logistics Engineer monitors inventory, delivery schedules, lead times, and site logistics to support efficient project execution and minimize delays.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Review project plans, specifications, schedules, and procurement requirements to identify logistics and material needs. 

• Plan and coordinate the delivery, movement, staging, and storage of construction materials and equipment. 

• Coordinate deliveries with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and transportation providers. 

• Monitor material availability, inventory levels, delivery schedules, and lead times. 

• Coordinate material and equipment deliveries with construction schedules and project requirements. 

• Monitor site logistics, including storage areas, staging areas, delivery access, and movement of materials and equipment. 

• Identify material shortages, delivery delays, equipment issues, and other logistics problems and report them to project management. 

• Coordinate with procurement personnel and suppliers regarding material orders, availability, and expected delivery dates. 

• Track construction materials and equipment and maintain accurate logistics and inventory records. 

• Prepare logistics reports, delivery schedules, material tracking reports, and other project documentation. 

• Use project management, scheduling, spreadsheet, and other applicable software to track and analyze logistics information. 

• Coordinate with project personnel to adjust logistics activities based on changes in construction schedules, site conditions, and project requirements. 

• Assist project management in identifying potential logistics issues and developing practical solutions to prevent delays. 

• Ensure that materials and equipment are delivered, stored, and moved in accordance with project requirements and site safety procedures. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Strong understanding of construction logistics, material coordination, procurement processes, and project scheduling. 

• Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, transportation methods, and material handling practices. 

• Familiarity with construction project plans, specifications, schedules, and procurement requirements. 

• Knowledge of inventory control, material tracking, delivery coordination, and storage practices. 

• Understanding of construction site logistics, including staging areas, storage areas, delivery access, and material movement. 

• Knowledge of project management principles, including scheduling, resource coordination, and cost control. 

• Ability to analyze project schedules and identify material and equipment requirements. 

• Ability to monitor deliveries, inventory levels, lead times, and material availability and identify potential delays. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, project management software, scheduling tools, and other applicable logistics or engineering software. 

• Strong organizational and time-management skills to coordinate multiple deliveries, materials, equipment, and project requirements. 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate effectively with project personnel, suppliers, subcontractors, and transportation providers. 

• Ability to analyze logistics problems and develop practical solutions to maintain project schedules. 

• Ability to maintain accurate records, reports, schedules, and documentation. 

• Ability to coordinate multiple logistics activities while meeting project deadlines and requirements. 

• Ability to adjust logistics plans and delivery schedules in response to changes in construction activities, site conditions, or project requirements. 

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond quickly to material, equipment, delivery, and site logistics issues. 

• Ability to ensure logistics activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field is required, with at least two to five (2–5) years of experience in logistics, construction logistics, supply chain management, project coordination, or a related field.
