
PROJECT ENGINEER
Job Summary:
The Project Engineer supports the implementation, coordination, and documentation of approved architectural, engineering, and construction documents during the construction phase. The position reviews plans and specifications, coordinates construction requirements, monitors field conditions and project progress, and communicates technical information to construction personnel, contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and project management.
The Project Engineer works with project personnel to ensure that approved project requirements are properly implemented and to identify construction issues, discrepancies, coordination concerns, field conditions, and potential constructability issues that require review or resolution by the appropriate supervising professional.
Duties and Responsibilities

Review and interpret approved architectural, engineering, and construction drawings, plans, specifications, schedules, and related project documents.

Coordinate approved project requirements with construction personnel, contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and other project personnel.

Coordinate construction methods, materials, sequencing, schedules, and other project requirements in accordance with approved plans and specifications.

Provide technical coordination regarding approved plans, specifications, schedules, materials, and construction requirements.

Monitor field activities to verify that construction work is being performed in accordance with approved project documents and requirements.

Document and evaluate field conditions affecting construction activities and project implementation.

Identify and report discrepancies, design coordination issues, field conditions, constructability concerns, and potential delays to the appropriate supervising professional and project management personnel.

Monitor construction progress, work activities, sequencing, materials, and schedules and report significant deviations from approved project requirements.

Review project submittals, shop drawings, material information, Requests for Information (RFIs), and other construction documentation for coordination with approved project requirements, as directed.

Assist in coordinating responses to RFIs, field issues, material concerns, and other technical construction matters with the appropriate architect, engineer, or project personnel.

Prepare project and field reports documenting construction progress, field conditions, coordination activities, and project issues.

Communicate technical construction requirements and project information to construction personnel, contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and other project participants.

Use AutoCAD and other applicable construction, drafting, scheduling, document-control, and project-management software to review, coordinate, and document project information.

Maintain accurate records of construction observations, field conditions, project documentation, RFIs, submittals, and coordination activities.

Assist with monitoring project schedules and construction sequencing and identify conditions that may affect project completion.

Coordinate significant construction issues, delays, field conditions, and technical concerns with the supervising Architect/Engineer and appropriate project management personnel.

Assist with the implementation and coordination of approved changes, revisions, and construction requirements under the direction of the appropriate supervising professional.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and construction drawings, plans, specifications, schedules, and construction documents.

Knowledge of construction methods, building materials, construction systems, project schedules, and construction coordination.

Understanding of how approved architectural and engineering requirements are translated into construction activities.

Knowledge of construction sequencing, field conditions, building systems, and project coordination.

Understanding of basic structural and construction principles applicable to building construction.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply approved architectural, engineering, and construction documents.

Ability to identify discrepancies, field conditions, coordination issues, constructability concerns, and potential project delays.

Ability to coordinate technical construction requirements with contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and other project personnel.

Ability to prepare accurate project, construction, and field reports.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and other applicable construction, drafting, scheduling, document-control, and project-management software.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational, coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to recognize technical issues requiring review, direction, or approval by the appropriate licensed Architect or Engineer.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field is required, along with relevant professional experience in architecture, engineering, construction, project coordination, construction administration, or a related field.
Experience with construction documents, architectural and engineering plans and specifications, construction methods, field coordination, construction administration, AutoCAD, scheduling, document control, and construction/project-management software is preferred.
