Procurement Engineer

Job Summary:

The Procurement Engineer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and procuring materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for construction projects in accordance with technical specifications, project schedules, and budget requirements. This role acts as a vital liaison between engineering teams, vendors, and the procurement department to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of high-quality materials that meet project standards and client expectations.

​Essential Duties and Responsibilities:​

  • Reviews project specifications, drawings, and material submittals to determine procurement needs

  • Identifies, evaluates, and qualifies vendors and suppliers based on technical compliance, cost competitiveness, and delivery capability

  • Prepares requests for quotations, analyzes bids, and recommends supplier selections in coordination with engineering and project management teams

  • Ensures that procured materials and services meet project requirements, codes, and standards

  • Coordinates with suppliers or technical queries, clarifications, and resolution of discrepancies

  • Tracks and monitors purchase orders and delivery schedules to alight with project milestones

  • Reviews and evaluates material submittals, samples, and test reports for technical compliance

  • Collaborates with the logistics team on transportation, shipping documentation, and customs requirements (if applicable)

  • Maintains accurate procurement records and prepares technical procurement reports as required

  • Provides input into procurement strategy and value engineering opportunities

  • Performs other duties as assigned

      

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ​

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, systems, and engineering principles

  • Proficient in interpreting technical specifications, drawings, and industry standards

  • Familiarity with procurement best practices, cost analysis, and vendor negotiation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skill

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced project environment

Duties and Responsibilities include:​

  • Coordinate the site-specific work schedule, appropriation of manpower, and track material and equipment requirements

  • Coordinate daily with Project Manager

  • Maintain and assist with updating project schedule

  • Complete daily reporting requirements  

  • Monitor workmanship and maintain compliance with submittal requirements

  • Read/Understand Plans and Specifications, and update as-builts

  • Track and complete punch list according to contract requirements

  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Procurement of ERP systems

Education and Experience:

​A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field is required. A minimum of three years of relevant experience in procurement, project engineering, or construction materials sourcing is preferred, particularly in large-scale or federal construction projects.
