Job Summary:

The carpenter position builds, repairs, and installs structures and other fixtures that support the foundation of a construction project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

​

• Installs cabinets, siding, partitions, and cabinet work using carpenter’s hand and power tools.

• Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout.

• Determines the dimensions and materials required for a project.

• Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures made of wood, such as concrete forms.

• Builds scaffolding and other construction structures.

• Ensures the accuracy of work by construction projects with proper tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares.

• Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

​

• Skilled in active listening, retaining information, and asking questions as appropriate.

• Skilled in learning strategies, selecting, and using training and instructional methods appropriate for the situation when teaching new information to new workers.

• Has effective teamwork and collaborative skills.

• Ability to properly care for and use tools needed for construction.

• Ability to lift to 50 pounds worth of construction materials.

• Ability to work while being in a prolonged period of standing, climbing, kneeling, and bending.

• Ability to measure precisely and cut items to the exact measurements they determined in the project blueprint.

• Ability to demonstrate vigilance and being aware of fixtures that can be dangerous to themselves and other workers.

• Knowledge of building and construction.

• Knowledge of reading blueprints and taking verbal and written instructions.

• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

• Must be able to have a good sense of balance.

• Must have an excellent hand-eye coordination.

 

Education and Experience and Special Requirements:

​

The carpenter position requires a minimum of a High School diploma and two (2) years’ worth of experience in any related field. Any off-island hires must complete a health screening prior to working in Guam. Similarly, successful applicants must be able to obtain military base access.
