Warehouse Specialist - GPSI

 

Summary/General Description of Job:

 

The Warehouse Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of warehousing duties that require an understanding of the establishment's storage plan. The duties will be accomplished as described in accordance with DoD and DON logistic procedures, standard operating procedures, and applicable local regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Routes materials to prescribed storage locations.

  • Verifies incoming materials (or merchandise) against receiving documents; notes and reports discrepancies and obvious damages.

  • Stores, stacks, or palletizes materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods.

  • Takes inventory of stored materials and re-warehouses as directed.

  • Inspects stored materials, and reports deterioration and damage.

  • Issues part to the applicable tradesman and transfers materials to replenish truck stock.

  • Removes material from storage and prepares it for shipment.

  • Assists with inventory of received/stored material to identify discrepancies as directed.

  • Provides back-up support to the Warehouse Supervisor or Manager in their absence.

  • Operates company-owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment on a daily basis; operates hand or power trucks in performing warehouse duties.

  • Assists with file maintenance, workspace cleanup, and maintain warehouse space and assists at the Family Self Help Store.

  • Supports other department staff as needed or directed.

  • Assists other trades in daily operations where required.

  • Adheres to established company safety, personnel policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Limited knowledge of hand and power tools.

  • Ability to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations.

  • Ability to perform duties in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner.

  • Ability to work closely and harmoniously with other employees.

  • Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.

  • Ability to pass a random DOT drug test if required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience & Professional Association):

Mininum

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Two (2) years experience with material packaging, record filing and/or property inventory.

  • Knowledge of inventory management systems, such as MINCOM, SAP or Maximo.

  • Basic mathematical skills.

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a forklift license and an AB driver’s license.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS).

Preferred

  • Two (2) years work experience in the supply field or warehousing.

  • Construction and/or maintenance knowledge.

  • Knowledge in the use of computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge and experience in the use and operations of forklift, delivery truck and other material handling equipment.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.
